Solid State Drives - Hardrive Technology

By Newsdesk | August 2, 2008

If you’re interested in the latest technology, then solid state drives (or SSD’s) have probably been on your radar for awhile now.  But there use does raise more than a few questions. To answer those questions, we first need to learn a little bit more about these drives.  Then we’ll delve into how they stack up to their promises.

Basically these devices are types of hard drives which do not rely on magnetic media for their memory storage.  Instead, they use semiconductors much like flash memory drives already do.  In fact, both of these storage devices use similar non-volatile memory chips.  However, the main difference between the two is that the solid state drive is not used as an external memory storage system like flash drives.  They are built to be installed internally in place of a traditional hard drive. Adsense is Dead….Its Official!

Adsense is Dead….Its Official!

Is Google’s advertising empire and dominance in the pay per click marketing finally coming to an end?

Well that’s what some internet marketing experts will tell you pre-dominantly because their age old ways of earning an extra click or two by subtle positioning pictures next to links and or blending Google links with their own are finally being ousted, as Google once again appears to be going on the offensive in order to serve better results to end users.

Google it seems has been on the offensive for some time against spammy made for adsense sites but some of these sites have rich content and are a useful resource for the niches they deal in.

The new guidelines will only make some of the very well presented sites look spammier as adsense ads are made more distinguishable from the content. But in all fairness it can be argued and rightly so that blending links is merely deception which is why Google prefers you not to do it.

The unfortunate thing with all this though is with the sheer magnitude of the undeniable success of adsense means that Google is having trouble policing it’s own strategies and some of the biggest culprits, that is the directory sites that serve thousands of ads a day, appear to be simply getting away with it, while the smaller advertisers seem to take all the flak.

The question I ask is how come?

Ads should be clearly distinguishable from surrounding content???

Well check this link and see what you think (nothing personal guys)

As you can see these ads are clearly NOT.

What’s your view?

Runtime Errors - What They Are, How To Fix Them

Runtime Errors - What They Are, How To Fix Them

Runtime errors, such as runtime error 429, runtime error 100061, and runtime error 126, usually occur when a program currently running on your computer experiences an unexpected situation. Quite often, runtime errors occur when one or more of the following conditions is true:

As there can be many different causes for these errors, there can also be many different troubleshooting steps for runtime errors. Some of the common methods to fix runtime errors are discussed below.

Many times runtime errors occur when you try to execute a command that cannot be fulfilled because certain required conditions are not fulfilled. For instance, if you run a macro in a Word document to delete a table or a table row without selecting the row, a runtime error may be displayed. These errors are not something to worry about because you can fix them just by fulfilling all the conditions that are required to execute the particular command.

If this does not resolve the error, try to search for the error code that is displayed in the error message to check for its resolution method on the Internet. If you are lucky, you may find a solution to your error on several forums or on the Microsoft support web site.

To check if the error is caused due to program conflicts, you will have to clean boot the system. You can do this easily by using the System Configuration Utility (msconfig). Use this utility to disable all programs and services except for Microsoft services, loaded at system startup and then restart your PC. If the runtime error disappears then one of the programs that loads at system startup is likely to be the cause behind the error. To find out what program is causing the problem, re-enable programs one-by-one using the System Configuration Utility and restart your system. If the runtime error occurs again, then the program you selected last is probably the one causing the program conflict.

While fixing runtime errors, it is essential for you to ensure that your operating system, device drivers, and programs installed on your PC are updated with the latest patches and service packs released by their manufacturers. This is an essential task because outdated and missing files are one of the major causes of several runtime errors.

You must run a thorough antivirus and antispyware scan on your PC. Malware programs can corrupt and infect the files that are used to run your applications and cause runtime errors. Therefore, scanning and removing malware infections may help resolve runtime errors.

It is also recommended that you run a deep and thorough scan of the Windows registry to repair any errors that might be causing problems on your system.

Lastly, check the hardware of your computer, because malfunctioning hardware can also cause runtime errors on the PC. There are several PC diagnostic and memory testing tools available today that you can use to perform these tests. Once you have identified the faulty hardware, you can get it repaired or replaced.

Is Windows Vista Getting Better

By Newsdesk | March 23, 2008

In the last year, Microsoft Windows introduced their newest version of their operating system, called Windows Vista. This was a highly anticipated release and included many enhancements that Windows users had been looking forward to for some time. However, there have been some problems reported with Vista and unless you are having some issues with your current version of Windows, you might want to wait to upgrade.

This article should help you navigate through the various considerations and help you to understand if now is the right time to make the move to Vista or if you should hold off for awhile. On the positive side, it has been noted that Vista seems to operate more reliably and with fewer operating system crashes than what people tend to experience with Windows XP.

In addition to that, the new Windows Vista version of the operating system by Microsoft was also noted to bring some improvements to the fundamental features of the Windows environment. A majority of users who tested Vista reported that there was better built-in help and support functions which helped speed up trouble-shooting.

Just like Xp however once you start adding a few programs it won’t be long before the reigistry starts getting bloated so it is re-assuring that the popular computer repair software tools have been upgraded to cope with this latest release.

On the negative side of things, the search function in the Vista Home Basic version is not easily located on the desktop. Instead, the search function has been “buried” inside the applications or you need to go through the Start Menu. For some people this is not really a major issue, but for others who use this function frequently it has been reported as an annoyance.

So far there has been very little computer software written specifically for Vista. This is sure to change soon and no doubt there is a great deal of software development going on, with regard to writing applications specifically to take advantage of the new aspects of Vista.

However, this fact has led the computer pundits and experts to tell people that there is really no urgent need to make the move to Vista at this time. This is especially true if you are content with your system just the way it is, as it provides very little motivation to upgrade from Windows 2000 or Windows XP.

At the same time, for those who are looking at purchasing a new computer and wondering which Windows operating system to choose, the experts say that Vista is certainly stable enough. It makes sense when buying a new computer to go ahead and get the most current operating system available, as long as it will be trouble free.

That said, unless you are unhappy for some reason with your current version of Windows, the expense of upgrading to Windows Vista is really not justified at this point. That will undoubtedly change when the software publishers start releasing new versions. You will also need to consider the cost of upgrading those software packages when that time comes.

Choosing E-mail Server Software

By Newsdesk | March 18, 2008

When it comes time to change your email server software or put together a network so people can send their emails back and forth to different web addresses and within their own network, you have quite a few from which to choose. Here is a list of the most popular email servers used: Linux email server, Merak mail server and Kerio mail server. These three are some of the ones you will see mentioned most often.

The Linux email server is a pretty popular choice for email server software for two big reasons. The first is that you do not have to register the software. The second is that you do not have to purchase the software. But of course there is a down side to using Linux. It can be complicated due to it’s programming language. It is definitely not software for beginners.

The Merak mail server is a server that is used widely in Local Area Networks, such as those used in businesses. It can be used with both the Microsoft and Linux operating systems. There are different levels of services that Merak offers and they vary, such as how many users can be utilizing the software program at one time. If you use this program, then go with version PP since it also includes the use of an email address list that everyone in the office can use to send emails.

Last on the list is Kerio mail server. This is the full service, one-stop shopping solution for email servers. It is used for corporate businesses and comes equipped with anti-spam, anti-virus and a host of other protective measures to keep your email server working in top shape. The bonus for using Kerio is that it works with Smartphones, as well as wireless, to communicate calendars and important emails while you are away from your desk.

There are a few things to keep in mind when choosing email server software. The first is how much it is going to be used. The second is the initial set up and the costs for doing the set up. You should also keep in mind the amount of time it will take to keep the server up and running. If it is going to be used a lot and by many people, then you may want to check into commercial grade servers.
