Do You Really Need To Buy A New Pc ?
By Newsdesk | October 28, 2007
Once you have owned your Pc for a few months or years you may find that over time is has started to get quite slow to the point that you think its time to replace it.
Un-be known to most people however is that just because a computer is running slow there may not necessarily be much wrong with it that a little computer maintenance can’t sort out, when was the last time you did any on yours?
So where do you begin with this system maintenance? Let’s start with your hard drive for example, did you know that you can clean up the data on your hard drive and shuffle it around so it is all neat and tidy. It’s a bit like tidying up a filing cabinet so you can find things easily.
A hard drive works in a similar way and get just as untidy as a real filing cabinet if you just dump the files back in which is essentially what your computer does.
Â
Can you imagine if you had to find a file in a friends filing cabinet but you had no idea where they had put it how long would it take you to find it compared to if you knew where it was.
In hard drive terms this is called Hard disk fragmentation so defragmentation should be part of weekly or background system maintenance.
Windows comes with its own disk defragmentation software if you know where to find it but it is not by any stretch of the imagination the best utility on the block. Most computer professionals prefer specialized utilities for defragmenting a harddrive that are available to everyone and are freely downloadable and very easy to use.
Make sure you don’t end up with a slow Pc computer just for the sake of a bit of basic maintenance. You can get more information about this and other basic repairs you can make yourself from Computer Repair UK
